It negatively influences children's rights to education, health and protection. These consequences impact not just the girl directly, but also her family and community. A girl who is married as a child is more likely to be out of school and not earn money and contribute to the community.
Child marriage has been prevalent in India for centuries and it is not a particular religion but a long standing practice in all religions, communities and classes.
At present, this practice is seen more in rural areas. The reasons behind child marriage are mainly factors like poverty, illite- racy, patriarchy. There is a fixed age for marriage in India. 18 years for the girl and 21 years for the boy. Which applies to boys and girls of all religions and castes. If a boy or a girl is married before this age, then it is called child marriage.
